Why a full ban isn’t always the answer — and how young people can care for themselves during this time
Social media has become a huge part of how teens connect, learn, express themselves, and feel included in the world. While safety is important, completely removing young people from digital spaces can also create new challenges.
At a time when teens are already managing school, friendships, identity, and mental health, a sudden ban may increase feelings of isolation — especially for those who rely on online communities for support, creativity, or belonging.
For many teens, online friendships are real friendships. Social media helps them stay close with friends, family, and interest communities. Removing this connection can impact their sense of belonging.
The world is online. Teens need experience with communication, media awareness, safety skills, and digital literacy — all of which come from supervised, age-appropriate social media use.
Platforms give young people space to share their stories, passions, and identities. A full ban can silence healthy expression and creativity.
Some teens find emotional support, mental health information, or LGBTQIA+ safe spaces online — places they may not have offline. Losing these spaces can reduce their wellbeing.
Healthy boundaries, guidance, and education work better than bans. Teens thrive when adults teach them how to navigate the online world — not simply lock them out of it.
Even though restrictions can feel frustrating or unfair, there are positive ways for teens to stay grounded, supported, and connected.
Spend time with friends in person when possible — coffee catch-ups, beach days, sports, gaming nights, or walks.
Start journals, drawing, music playlists, photography, or small DIY projects. Creativity boosts mental health and gives a sense of control.
Youth groups, sports, volunteering, or school clubs can give you the belonging you might normally feel online.
Meditation apps, calming playlists, breathing exercises, or quiet time help manage stress.
Even without social media, screen time can creep up. Short digital breaks help reset the brain and reduce anxiety.
If the ban affects your mood, motivation, or friendships, speak to a trusted adult, teacher, counsellor, or mentor. You deserve support.
Use this time to try new hobbies or strengthen old ones — sports, dance, cooking, reading, animals, gaming projects, or learning something new.
A safe and healthy digital world shouldn’t come from cutting teens off — it should come from guidance, education, respect, and empowerment.
Young people thrive when they feel heard, trusted, and supported. With the right balance, teens can stay safe and stay connected.
We offer a range of specialized services tailored to meet your individual needs. Our approach is focused on understanding and responding to what you require, providing effective and practical solutions.
Anti-Bullying • Financial Wellbeing • Mental Health Awareness
As a Youth Ambassador, I work directly with schools to empower students, build confidence, and strengthen positive culture. My school engagement sessions are designed to be real, relatable, and youth-led — speaking with students, not at them. I focus on the issues young people are actually facing today, and I share practical tools they can use in real life.
⭐ Anti-Bullying & Respectful Behavior
I speak openly about the impact of bullying, the pressures students face, and how to create a school environment where everyone feels safe and valued. My sessions include:
Understanding different forms of bullying
Confidence building for bystanders and targets
How to seek help safely
The power of kindness, empathy, and peer leadership
Navigating online friendships and digital behavior
My goal is to teach students how to protect themselves, support others, and build strong respectful relationships.
Young people today need financial skills earlier than ever. I introduce age-appropriate financial literacy in a fun, engaging way, covering topics like:
This session helps students feel confident handling money and making smart financial choices.
I speak openly about mental health from a young person’s perspective — the pressures we all feel, the challenges we don’t always talk about, and the importance of reaching out early. These sessions include:
Understanding emotions and stress
Tools for managing pressure and overwhelm
How to deal with isolation, friendship conflict, and school anxiety
Where and how to ask for help
Building resilience, self-worth, and belonging
Students leave feeling supported, understood, and equipped with practical strategies they can use every day.
✔ School assemblies
✔ Year-level presentations
✔ Workshops and small groups
✔ Peer-to-peer conversations
✔ Parent evenings (from a youth perspective)
✔ Staff insights sessions (helping adults understand youth experiences)
I create a safe, positive, inclusive space where students feel seen and heard. Everything I share comes from lived experience and genuine passion — which helps young people connect, engage, and trust the message.
Schools have told me that having a young voice delivering these topics makes a big difference. It feels relevant, real, and easier for students to relate to.
